Meet Ketyn

Helping people live a healthy later life

My name is Ketyn Jepson and I teach Extend exercise classes in person in the Bath and North East Somerset area for older people or those with restricted mobility. I am very passionate about helping older individuals to stay as fit, active and healthy as they can be for as long as possible. In 2018 I started my own business, “Extend Your Health”, having worked for Age UK for over 10 years. I qualified as an Extend Exercise Instructor in 2008 and since then have taught sessions to hundreds of older people. My participants tell me the exercises make them feel better both mentally and physically. There has recently been a surge of interest in exercise sessions for over 60s which is a very encouraging sign that more and more older people are embracing later life. Many of my clients are in their 80s and even a few in their 90s!

My aim is to help older people to improve their mobility and to have fun while they do it.

I have a real passion for what I do and am pleased to be part of the new EXTEND training team who will teach and inspire new teachers with our brand-new VTCT accredited courses in 2021 and beyond. I am also looking at ways to expand what I do and grow my business by offering online Zoom sessions and more varied activities and opportunities for my group members to experience fun in an inclusive environment. I am also hoping to be offering Mindfulness sessions later this year.
I qualified as an Otago Instructor in May 2023 which I consider a complementary addition to my expertise. The Otago programme is a series of exercises which focus on strength and balance aimed at helping to reduce falls in frailer older people. The exercises are beneficial for anyone who would like to build and maintain strength and participants are encouraged to do the exercises at home as well as during the class.

I am lucky enough to work closely with the West of England Rural Network (WERN), Age UK (B&NES) as well as the local Physiotherapy and Falls Prevention Teams, the Carer’s Centre Bath and the Parkinson’s Society (B&NES) to ensure that as many older people as possible can access the right exercise sessions.

I am also a fully qualified Reflexologist (Association of Reflexologists 2005) which my clients find to be a very beneficial and relaxing treatment.

Extend Your Health - Ketyn Jepson and Kate
We found the routines were especially beneficial when I was recovering from my hip replacement and when Jenny was recovering from her knee replacement. Ketyn is very considerate, thoughtful and caring and she is always looking out for anyone who might be struggling with a particular exercise. She will suggest alternative ways of doing things to make sure that we all keep going within our own comfort levels.
